PREVIOUSLY AT THE MARKET

We had our normal volume of shoppers last week despite the hot and muggy weather. And our vendors were happy to sell most of their inventory and to talk about farming, baking, and cheese making. They also like to hear about the latest news from the City.

Feta cheese from Clover Meadow is just plain yummy (and serious business)!

This little shopper munches on a peach from Aquilera.

GG Bakes was as busy as ever.

Scott of Timber Buck Maple answered some questions.

MUSIC THIS WEEK

Allen Hopkins

Allen Hopkins plays folk music: American traditional, Celtic instrumental, a bit of Yiddish, blues, bluegrass, old timey, and contemporary. Intimacy is one of the things that he has always loved about folk music—the lack of distance between performer and audience. Here, in the paradoxical one-on-one closeness of our impersonal electronic community, we can talk directly.

With varying degrees of expertise, he plays guitar, banjo, mandolins of all sizes, Autoharp, English concertina, harmonica, bass (acoustic and electric), Dobro, Appalachian dulcimer, ukulele, and other odd instruments from tiple to kalimba.

COMMUNITY TENT THIS WEEK

Metro Justice

At our Community Table this week, Metro Justice will offer free tickets to the labor film series at the Dryden Theatre. Metro Justice informs the community about issues important to all members of a democratic society. Pick up one of their newsletters or flyers.

Metro Justice has long been on the forefront of important issues affecting our country and our world. The organization has opposed such issues as "redlining", corporate welfare, military spending, privatizing social security or Medicare, and unlawful housing evictions.
